The Overview

THE CLIENT

Technology Rocks (digital agency for Rhok Jeans)

PROJECT BRIEF

Design a new website to replace old legacy site.

ROLE

Sole UI Designer

DURATION

1 week

SKILL AREAS

User Interface Design, basic information architecture, desktop research, Visual Design.

The Client & Brief

The agency's client was looking to modernise their existing aged website.

In this project for web agency Technology Rocks, I created these concepts for their client Rhok Jeans. Rhok Jeans are an Australian brand with a dedicated fanbase in their niche of protective wear, with a focus on their jeans. After a few years off, the small business owner had decided that the he was ready to ramp up the business and that started with a refresh of their legacy website.

The Design Process

I took a UX/UI lens doing quick research and planning with limited resources & time.

Given limited access to resources, site images & time constraints a scrappy design process would have to be applied. This included:

-Interview with key stakeholders
-Desktop research of page & users
-Competitor Analysis across similar categories
-Information Architecture audit
- Quick Information Architecture redesign

- Sketches & Wireframes

- Visual Design

- quick Design System creation

The UI Design Process

Sketched out the home page informed by research.

I sought to create a long form home page that would be responsive for both mobile and web. The details of the design were informed by research conducted such as trends observed in competitive analysis, analysis of existing assets and creation of a quick IA based on these.

In an ideal world I would have loved to have done prototype testing and potentially card sorting. Due to project constraints I was only able to design the home page and IA.

The Visual Design

I created a Design System to communicate brand values through visual design elements.

I chose colours and textures based on the themes of safety, bikes and masculinity and created a design system to reflect the choices after experimentation. These themes were informed by desktop competitor research and interviews.

It was interesting to me to see how much including even a slight UX process with my UI improved the end solution. I believe it made the message much clearer and targeted. The goal as to create a design which fit into the wider modern ecosystem while still being unique to the brand and its values and I think I achieved that here.

The Final Solution

Resulting in the final refreshed UI design being loved by the client.

The final design was incredibly well received by the client and agency. They were very impressed with what I had done given the resource constraints. They loved the modernisation, clean look and visual brand that could be seen from these designs. I was proud to create something that the brand could see themselves in.
